Jack Stack Barbeque, Kansas City, Missouri

Jack Stack is a authentic small-scale chain barbecue joint. I have to admit the best thing about the restaurant is probably the smell that invades your nostrils immediately upon entering which makes your mouth start to water and crave smoked meats.

Presentation:
About as classic as you can get. Low walled oval ramekin on an oval dinner plate. Strawberry garnish. And if you're wondering, that's a paper napkin between the ramekin and the plate.

Crust:
A surprisingly delicate crust which lends a simple sweetness. No char at all to disrupt the taste.

Custard:
The custard has a strong vanilla taste which is evidenced by the vanilla bean shavings sprinkled on the bottom of the ramekin. It is light in density verging on slightly too light. It is served slightly cooler than room temperature.

Overall Impression:
I must say that I tried this crème brûlée expecting nothing considering I ordered it from a place flaunting it's barbecued ribs, chicken and fish. However, I was impressed that they produced an overall quality product. There is nothing to impress here, but it is definitely a quality dessert.

Rating:
2/5
